A Vision for Transforming Access

Led by UCSF's Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health (ANSIRH) in partnership with California Latinas for Reproductive Justice (CLRJ), the California Home Abortion Telehealth (CHAT) is a patient-centered, clinically supported, prospective study among people in the United States seeking medication abortion. This landmark study aims to build the evidence-base for safely expanding access to medication abortion by mail using a simple online or phone app-based telemedicine model. CHAT is the first study-of-its-kind in the U.S. that will evaluate abortion medication by mail without the need for a doctor’s visit or ultrasound.

Since our study launched, we have collected data from over 6,000 telehealth abortion patients and responses from over 1,200 survey participants. We have been working to examine these findings and are excited to continue to share this important research with you.
